Isabél Zuaa


Film and Theater actress, performer, singer and dancer, Isabel Zua was born in Lisbon in 1987. Her mother is from Angola and her father from Guiné-Bissau. When she was 5, she joined an African Dance group and was part of it until her adolescence. In 2006, she studied acting at Chapitô Art School with Ginna Tochetto. In 2007, she began studying at the Portuguese National Conservatory. She moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to study Performing Arts at Unirio. In her research about Black Women as protagonists and hosts of their own story, she develops new ideas and experimentation through body and vocal self-esteem. Additional Film work includes: “Casa das Canoas” (2010), by Tâmaras Guimarães; “Between the street and the hill, a garden” (2013), by Bárbara Marcel; “Aquilo que Sobra” (2013), by Humberto Giancristofaro; “Kbela” (2015), by Yasmin Thainá, and “Alegoria de Terra” (2015), by Marcos e Eduardo Carvalho. In Dance, she collaborates with Gustavo Círiaco since 2010: “Eles vão ver”, Festival Panarona (2010); “Sala de Maravilhas/ A Room of Wonder” (2013); “Onde o Horizonte se Move”, Festival Panorama (2013), Circuito Sesc (2014) and Bienal de Dança em Campinas (2015); “Quem Anda no Chão, Quem Anda nas Arvóres, Quem tem Asas” (2015). With Denise Stutz and Felipe Ribeiro in “Eu Um Branco” (2013). With Tino Segal in “Estas Associações” (2013). In Theater, she worked with Tiago Vieira in “Antes que Tudo Acabe” (2011). With João Duarte Costa in the musical “A cigarra e a Formiga” (2012). “Contemporâneos”, directed by Eduardo Landim (2013). And “Melodrama da Meia Noite”, with Cia Melodramática do Rio de Janeiro (2015). In Performance, she was the main role in “Carolina, Mas Maria”, in the 24 Semana Teixeira e Souza in the Festival Ser Negra (2014), with text by Nina Silva. And “Corpo que é Corpo, Corpo que é Voz”, co-directed by Tais de Amorim, in Festival Afrontamento (2015).
